Information regarding NDIS

Are you interested in taking Dance Movement Therapy sessions?

…I can offer sessions if your NDIS plan is SELF-MANAGED or PLAN-MANAGED.
DTAA (Dance Movement Therapy Association of Australia) provides information about how a Dance Movement Therapist can work with NDIS participants. Details can be found here.

Dance Movement Psychotherapy(Therapy) values and focuses on our body movements as our main expressive and communicative resources. Therefore, even if the verbal communication is not their usual communication style, people can still be met where they are and can form connection through body-oriented, non-verbal dialog.

◇How does the session look like?

  • Sessions start with warm-up. This can be for example some gentle body movements or such as an “opening ritual” the participant and the therapist create together. From there, the course of the session will follow what the participant brings into the space to explore or to share. Depending on the needs of the participant, we may introduce music and/or props. The sessions will always end with closure. We may do warm-down movements and if the person is verbal, we would reflect on our experience during the session. If the person is non-verbal, we will still do some kind of “finishing ritual” to mark the end of the session.

  • The length of the Individual sessions are usually 45mins and group sessions can be 50mins to 1hour long.

  • Sessions normally take place in a safe space under confidentiality to protect the privacy of the participant.
